Central Volusia County in east central Florida... * Until 600 PM EDT * At 532 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over DeLand Airport, or near DeLeon Springs, moving northeast at 55 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. * Locations impacted include... Daytona Beach, Port Orange, Ormond Beach, DeLand and South Daytona. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure such as a small interior room. Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move immediately to shelter inside a strong building. Stay away from windows. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Daytona Beach and Surrounding Areas
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing hail up to golfball size in diameter is across the Tiger Bay State Forest. If you're anywhere in the Daytona Beach area, this is a dangerous situation. Be inside and don't be in a car (If all at possible)
